Files with the .raw extension usually come from older Panasonic Lumix cameras, some Leica models or Casio cameras. Panasonic later switched to .RW2, but many photographers still have files in the older format. However, RAW is also a generic term for all raw files from digital cameras. File-Converter-Online.com supports not only .raw but also other RAW formats such as CR2, NEF, ARW or ORF and automatically recognises the content. After uploading, the file content is analysed and all possible conversions are displayed in the drop-down menu.
PNG or JPG?
Both formats are universally readable; the difference lies in the compression. JPG is lossy and is usually sufficient for photos. PNG compresses losslessly; this is useful if the image is to be further edited or if sharp edges need to be preserved. Only PNG supports transparency. However, the files become significantly larger than with JPG, which can be a disadvantage when sharing.
During conversion, the sensor data is interpreted and permanently embedded – white balance, exposure compensation, colour space. It is not possible to revert to the raw data afterwards, so please keep the original if necessary.
How to convert RAW to PNG online?
